Using the Mobile App

Use our mobile web app to capture and upload photos directly from the field into your projects

Written by Holly Tyler

Our mobile field app is a lightweight version of Sensat to use when onsite to add site information as photo markups. Photo markups are geolocated points which can be visualised in Sensat alongside all of your other project data. Learn more about photo markup here.

Before using the mobile app, make sure you have:

Logging in and setup

  1. Open the app

Open the Sensat Platform link on your mobile device https://mapp.sensat.world/projects.

  2. Signing in

If you are a new user, you will be guided through a mobile-friendly sign-up flow. Existing users can log in via the standard login page.

  3. Switching versions:

If you are on a tablet, you will be taken to the Full version of the app by default. To switch to the mobile-friendly companion app, tap "Switch to field app" in the top bar.

On mobile, you can find the "Full version" option within the three-dot menu.

  4. Selecting a Project:

Upon logging in, you will see a list of projects you have access to. Tap the project you want to access.

  5. Logging out:

To log out, use the three-dot menu in the top corner.

Capturing and uploading photos

  1. Select or take photo from the homepage:

Take photo: This opens your device’s camera immediately.

    • In this option you will be taken to a form fill page where you can update the name and add a description to provide more context.

Upload photos: This opens your phone’s photo library to select a set of existing images.

  2. Choose an upload location:

Once your photos are ready, you must choose a folder to upload them to.

    1. You will see a list of "root" folders. Tap a folder to see its subfolders.

    2. Navigate until you are in the correct subfolder. If you have permission, the button in the bottom right will change to "Upload here."

    3. If you have the correct permissions, you can tap the icon in the top right to create a new subfolder within the folder you are in.

  3. Finalising your upload:

After clicking "Upload here", your photos will start to upload to your project. Once complete, click "Done" to return to the home screen.

Note: If there are issues (e.g. no internet or missing location data), banners will appear at the top of the screen. You can tap Retry if an upload fails.

Viewing project content

  1. Navigate your project folders

Open the content page on your mobile device to see all of your project's folders. Click on each folder to navigate through the hierarchy and see your content.

  2. Add content

Use the blue cross to add content to the folder you are currently in. You can take an individual photo or bulk upload. This will follow the same steps as above.

  3. Edit content & commenting

You can open up any of your project content to see more detail. If you have Can edit or above permissions on the content, then you will be able to update the fields through this interface. You can also add comments here, tagging your team mates on that content. Learn more about commenting.

Managing comments

  1. Open the comments page on mobile

By clicking the comments option on the bottom navigation bar, you will see a list of all content where you are part of a thread.

To be part of a thread, you will have been tagged or have commented on that content previously.

  2. View your unread comments

Content with unread messages are marked with a red dot in the list. You can also switch to the "unread" tab to only see your unread comments.

  3. Reply

Click on a piece of content to open up the detail and click the comment part at the bottom to add a new comment to the thread. You can tag any member or group using "@". Click the attachment button to attach an image or file from your phone to the message.

Note: make sure that whoever you tag in a comment as access to the content, otherwise they will not be able to view it. Learn more.

  4. Notifications

Once you have written a comment, if you have tagged someone in it, they will receive an email notification. Clicking the link in the email from a mobile device will open the content directly on the mobile app.
