What are Photomarkups?

Photomarkups are geolocated photos - images that contain location metadata. When you upload these photos to Sensat, they’re automatically recognised as photomarkups and can be visualised on the map in their real-world locations.

Accepted file formats

To ensure your images are processed correctly as photomarkups, they must be in one of the following formats: .png, .jpg, or .jpeg.

Other file types such as .gif, .heic, .avif, .webp are not currently supported.

How to create Photo-markups

  1. Upload your photos to Content
Not sure how? Learn how to upload photos here.

  2. Ensure your photos contain location metadata
If they do, Sensat will automatically detect and label them as photomarkups.
The image below shows the different icons used to distinguish photomarkups from other content.

  3. Add them to a Workspace
Follow the usual process to add your content to your Workspace. Once added, photomarkups will appear in the 2D environment at their geolocated positions.

Important notes

  • Photomarkups have a 35mb limit

Images that are larger than this limit will not display as photomarkups. They can still be previewed in Content, but will not act as a visual layer. To visualise them in your workspace, please compress the image.

  • Location metadata is required
Photos must have location data to be recognised as photomarkups. Make sure location services are enabled in your camera settings when taking the photo.

  • iPhone users
iOS will strip location data unless you use AirDrop or transfer your photos via USB cable to your computer. Avoid sending them through apps like email or messaging, which will remove metadata.
