1. How to duplicate layers

  1. Navigate to the item that you want to duplicate in the Scene Manager.
πŸ’‘Tip: right-click on any layer to quickly find an item in the panel, read how.

  2. In the three-dot menu select the option to "Duplicate".

  3. When you create a duplicate, it will be:

    • be offset from the current position of the "parent file";

    • be in the active "Reposition mode" ready to move;

    • retain the Timeline properties of the parent file;

    • saved to the same folder as the parent file in Content.

Compatible file types

2D / 3D

File type

Can be duplicated?

3D only

.dwg, .ifc, .dgn, .glb, .rvt, .nwd, .fbx, .glb

Yes

2D + 3D

.dxf

No

2D only

.kml, .geojson

No

Permissions

Your ability to duplicate a file depends on your Workspace-level permissions. Guests cannot duplicate files, but both Members and Managers can. [Learn more here.]

Please note that duplicated files cannot be downloaded as they are not georeferenced. Only the original file is available for download.

2. How to reposition layers

  1. Navigate to the item that you want to reposition in the Scene Manager.
πŸ’‘Tip: right-click on any layer to quickly find an item in the Scene Manager, read how.

  2. In the three-dot menu select the option to "Reposition".

πŸ“ Note: this option will only be available if you have the correct data access permissions, i.e. 'edit' or above. [Learn more here.]

  3. When in the "reposition mode" you have the options to:

    1. "Click to place" your model at a specific point;

    2. Enter the coordinates of a new centre point; or

    3. Use the "arrows" to move or rotate your model.

How to use "click to place"

  • This option is useful if you have a specific location in mind or if you're moving your model over a large distance (the item being moved doesn't need to be visible in your scene to use this option).

  • Simply click anywhere, either on a pointcloud or another model, to select where you want to place your model (you're choosing the centre point of the model's base).

  • Select "Save" to confirm the new location.

How to enter the coordinates of a new centre point

  • The text fields in the "Centre Point" pop-up window are editable.

  • You can edit the X,Y,Z coordinates or the angle of rotation around the z-axis (Rz) for all "pure 3D" files, but only the z-value for .dxf files.

πŸ“ Note:the coordinates shown here are defined in your project CRS (Coordinate Reference System). Therefore, the units will show in meters if your a using a metric CRS, even if your display units have been set to imperial.

How to use the "arrows" to move or rotate your model

How to move a model along the X, Y, Z axes:

  1. Hover over any of the arrows until the selected axis is highlighted in white and a line appears indicating the direction of the axis.

  2. Click and drag to move the model along the selected axis.

How to move a model within the XY plane (with the z-axis fixed):

  1. Hover over the yellow square (located between the X and Y axes) until it is highlighted in white and lines appear representing both the X and Y axes.

  2. Click and drag to move the model within the XY plane.

How to rotate a model (Rx, Ry, Rz)

  1. Hover over the arc representing the plane you want to rotate in until it's highlighted in white and a line appears representing the axis that you're rotating around. In the example below the model is rotating in the XY plane around the Z-axis (Rz). This is the only rotational value reported in the Scene Manager.

  2. Click and drag to rotate the model.

How to return a model to its original position

  • Navigate to the item that you want to reset in the Scene Manager.

  • Click on the blue "reset" link next to the "Original centre point", to return the model to it's original position.

πŸ“ Note:Your model will returned to it’s original upload position, not to it’s previous position (if it was moved more than once).

How can I tell if a model/layer has been repositioned?

  • Its icon changes, as shown below - "Option A" has been moved and "Option B" has not:

  • In the Scene Manager and in Content, the "Current centre point" and "Original centre point" are reported for moved items only.

Compatible file types

2D / 3D

File type

Can be repositioned?

3D only

.dwg, .ifc, .dgn, .glb, .rvt, .nwd, .fbx, .glb

Yes: both translation (linear motion) and rotation are supported

2D + 3D

.dxf

Restricted: only translation along the z-axis is supported

2D only

.kml, .geojson

No

Permissions

  • You can only reposition files if you have "edit" access or higher [Learn more here.]

  • When a model is repositioned, it will appear repositioned for everyone in the Workspace, and at Content level.

  • Repositioned models cannot be downloaded because they lose their georeferencing. To download a file, it must be restored to its original position.

  • Files synced to a CDE cannot be repositioned.

3. How to duplicate markups

  1. Find the markup that you want to duplicate in the Scene manager (the lefthand side panel). You can do this by:

    1. Clicking on the markup which will open the Scene manager at the correct location; or

    2. Searching for it in the Scene manager.

  2. The option to "Duplicate" can be found in the three-dot menu of any markup:

  3. A new markup will appear offset from your original markup. If you want to move it, click on the markup to enter the markup edit state.

3. How to reposition markups

2D Markups

  1. Click on a markup to enter the markup edit state. The markup will turn blue indicating that it can be edited.

  2. To move a markup, drag the blue dot at the centre of the markup to a new position.

  3. To rotate the markup, drag the arrow icon. The markup rotates around it's centre point (which is indicated by the blue dot).

3D Markups

Point markups:

You can move the position of a Point markup freely in 3D space, but it must always be attached to either a pointcloud or a model (it can't float in empty space). To move a Point markup:

  1. Hover over the cone until it turns white.

  2. Click and drag on the cone to move it to a new location.

Line, Zone, Cut-and-Fill, Height and Height-profile markups:

For these markup types, you can move:

  1. In translation along the X, Y or Z axis; or

  2. Freely along the XY plane (with the z-axis locked).

1. How to move a markup along the X, Y, Z axes

  1. Click on the markup to enter the markup edit state.

  2. Hover over any of the arrows until the selected axis is highlighted in white and a line appears indicating the direction of the axis.

  3. Click and drag to move the markup along the selected axis.

2. How to move a markup within the XY plane

  1. Click on the markup to enter the markup edit state.

  2. Hover over the yellow square (located between the X and Y axes) until it is highlighted in white and lines appear representing both the X and Y axes.

  3. Click and drag to move the markup within the XY plane.

How to rotate 3D markups

  1. Click on the markup to enter the markup edit state.

  2. Hover over the arc representing the plane you want to rotate in until it's highlighted in white and a line appears representing the axis that you're rotating around (in the example below the markup is rotating in the XY plane around the Z-axis).

  3. Click and drag to rotate the markup.
