Sensat can serve as a powerful optioneering tool, helping you explore different possibilities for your plans or proposed designs.
You can use both markups and 3D models in your optioneering workflows:
Markups allow you to sketch ideas directly onto your project site in the early stages. For example, you can outline potential locations for a new building or asset by drawing its footprint.
3D models provide greater precision when you're ready to refine your plans. Upload proposed structures, site machinery, or temporary works, then use the duplicate and reposition tools to assess their impact in real-world conditions.
1) Create a markup or upload your designs
Markup or annotate an area of interest, e.g. the footprint of a building or asset. Learn more about markups and how to use them here.
β
OR
βUpload a 3D design file. CAD/BIM files typically suffer from poor QA, therefore please read our guidance to ensure that your models successfully upload to Sensat.
2) Duplicate your markup or model
Duplicate your markup or model, so that you can evaluate and record different options. Learn how to create duplicates here.
3) Set up your scene:
Make sure that all of the layers needed for your assessment are turned on. For example, as well as your reality data you may need to see contextual data (e.g. flood risks, ancient woodlands etc.) or the locations of other proposed designs. Learn more about how to manage your scene here.
4) Evaluate your options:
Move your markups or models to different locations to assess their feasibility. For example you may want to:
Check by eye - are there any visible clashes?
Take measurements - e.g. the distance to an important feature or the amount of soil that needs to be removed or added (using our cut-and-fill tool).
Learn how to reposition markups or 3D models here.
5) Record your findings:
Record your findings or the difference between your different options, by renaming the duplicates, adding descriptions or comments, adding colours and icons to markups or even adding timeline dates.
6) Share your work:
Presentations help you share insights with teammates and stakeholders in a structured, interactive way.
A Presentation is a collection of interactive frames that lets you guide others through your project step-by-step.
When viewing a Presentation, tools are hidden from the interface to minimise distractions. However, you can still navigate the scene, hover over markups, and open attachments for more detail.
