Setting Content Types on Markups

How to apply a custom content type to a markup as you draw it, or update the type on a markup you've already created.

Written by Holly Tyler

To set a content type on a markup you will need to set them up first. Learn how to do this here.

Assigning a content type before you draw

You can pre-select a content type from the drawing toolbar so that it's applied automatically to the next markup you create.

  1. In the Workspace toolbar, click the content type icon (the tag icon, to the right of the drawing tools).

  2. A popover opens listing every content type available on the project, with a search field at the top if you need to find one quickly.

  3. Select a content type. The popover closes and the toolbar icon updates to that type's icon, highlighted to show it's now active.

  4. Choose any drawing tool (point, line, zone, etc.) and place your markup on the map as normal.

  5. As soon as the markup is created, it's automatically tagged with the selected content type. The Scene Manager panel opens straight to that markup's detail view, showing its name, icon, and the attributes configured for that content type, ready to fill in.

While a content type is pre-selected:

  • The toolbar icon stays highlighted, and every markup you create will use it until you change or clear it.

  • Click the highlighted icon again to clear the pre-selected type and go back to creating untyped markups.

  • Click the small chevron next to the icon at any time to reopen the popover and switch to a different type.

Setting or changing the content type on an existing markup

If a markup was created without a content type, or you need to change the one it has, you can set this from the markup itself:

  1. Open the three-dot menu on the markup, either from its detail view or from the content list.

  2. Select "Set content type". This expands to show the same searchable list of content types available on the project.

  3. Choose a content type from the list. The markup updates to show that type's icon and attributes.

Notes:

  • If the markup already has a content type applied, choosing a different one will show a warning first, as this will change which attributes are shown on the markup. Any values already entered against the old type's attributes will no longer apply but they will be retained if you return it to the type again.

  • To remove a content type from a markup and return it to a plain, untyped markup, select "Set content type" > "No content type" from the three-dot menu (or from the toolbar popover, before drawing).
