The Attributes library
Project settings > Attributes shows every attribute that exists in your project, in one place, regardless of which content type(s) it's used on. For each attribute you can see:
Who created it and when
Which content types it's currently linked to
Because attributes live in a shared library, the same attribute — say, Due date or Assigned to — can be reused across as many content types as you like, keeping fields consistent instead of recreating similar-but-slightly-different versions each time.
Creating an attribute
You can create a new attribute either directly from Project settings > Attributes, or inline while adding attributes to a content type:
Click "Add attribute".
Give it a name.
Choose its attribute type (see reference table below).
Configure any extra settings for that type, for example, the options and colours for a drop-down.
Save the attribute. It's now available to add to any content type.
Attribute types reference
Type | Description | Notes |
Short text | A single line of free text | Best for short values like names or reference numbers |
Multiline text | Longer free text | Best for notes or descriptions that may run to a few sentences |
Number | A numeric value | Use for counts, measurements or quantities |
Date | A single date, chosen from a calendar | Displayed and edited with a date picker |
Drop-down | A fixed list of options, each with its own colour | You define the option labels and colours when setting up the attribute; useful for statuses or categories |
Person / group | Assigns one or more project members or user groups | Draws from your project's existing people and groups |
URL | A link to somewhere else, e.g. a document or system | Displayed as a clickable weblink |
Editing an attribute
From Project settings > Attributes, open the three-dot menu next to the attribute you want to change.
Select "Edit attribute".
Update its name or type-specific settings (e.g. drop-down options), and save.
Notes
Because an attribute can be shared across multiple content types, editing it here updates it everywhere it's used, including on any items that already have data captured against it.
You cannot update the attribute's type after it has been created.
Deleting an attribute
From Project settings > Attributes, open the three-dot menu next to the attribute you want to remove.
Select "Delete".
You'll be warned that deleting an attribute will remove it from any content types it's attached to.
Confirm to proceed.
Note: deleting an attribute removes it, and any values captured against it, from every content type it's linked to. If you only want to stop using it on one content type, remove it from the content type instead of deleting it outright.
