How to manage complex files that have failed processing

Extremely complex files will fail processing if they exceed our processing limits (we terminate processing after 48 hours).

Below is some basic guidance on how to reduce the complexity of your file.

Note: we do not have strict file size limits because complexity isn't directly related to file size, but is instead is related to the number of entities in your file.

  1. Split your file up

    • In your original CAD software, split your file up into smaller files that can be uploaded separately. If there are multiple layers within your file, the easiest thing to do is to export each layer (or a selection of layers) as separate files.

  2. Remove unnecessary data

    1. Remove any data that isn't needed. For example, this could be a baselayers or finer details (such as nut and bolts) that no team needs to see in the Sensat platform.

  3. Separate federated Revit files

    • Sometimes Revit (.rvt) files can be federated files containing multiple versions of the same model (see image below). If this is the case, you will need to export each version separately as an .ifc file (it’s not possible to save the versions as separate .rvt files).
